  1. I enjoyed your presentation yesterday, Jacob. You make me wish I knew Whitman’s poetry better than I do. He’s a giant of American literature, but I know him better through the subsequent poets he influenced than through his own work. I wonder in what ways Whitman’s mystical experiences are similar to and different from Ginsberg’s evocations of madness?
